Why use GC?

It seems easy, and getting easier, to sound-off using this Forum but let's not forget why. 'GC' is the most organized and honest websites available to us gin-players. They have done a magnificent job of letting us compete any time and with any one we choose. The operatives are 'any'and 'choose'. If you don't agree with the manner in which a player plays, don't play him or her. Using the Forum is a great way to air your feelings and I support any use of it for any reason that isn't offensive or targeted towards a particular player. Each one of us has our reasons for competing on GC. I hope most of us use it to compete for or without tix. Let's try to keep the incredibly high standards that 'GC' set up and it really won't hurt if we're nice to our fellow players. Most of them are great people, if you take the time to find out.

Kudos

I agree with your high praise for 'Game Colony'. The ease of use of the sight and fairness of the game make it a pleasant experience for both the 'serious' gin players and the casual once-a-week player. for all the folks concerned with name-changers and 'hustlers' it is my experience that if you are playing for a few dollars (>30 tix) you had better assume that your opponent is a good player.

Thanks Wannabunch

It's funny that the dollar level of play is not necessarily and indication of that person's talent.

It seems logical that no player in their right mind would challenge a 'higher Roller' to a match when the match is at a higher level than they usually play. But,there is always a but, I've found that in the lower range, $5 to $25, there are an abundance of excellent players that enjoy the game and don't rely on it, the game, for revenues. I'm lucky enough to be able to play at any level but I prefer the stated range because these players are 'dead' serious but they also know that losing isn't going to affect their lifestyles. Okay, I should qualify by saying that Higher Stakes players are, or should be, playing within their means but there are some that cannot.

Regardless, GC is the place to go for all players at all levels of play.

I was not trying to imply anything about general level of play of anybody but rather pointing out to individuals that whenever you play anybody (or me) at a certain level of tix you had better be ready.

TALENT/SKILL, WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT

I agree with you whole heartedly Wanabunch and also with Poopo Gigo to some extent. There are quite a few players I'd want to play with for hours and I do but the only one that gains during these encounters is GC. We swap and ultimately one of us calls 'Last Match.' Genoo comes to mind. He and I play 5 to 7 matches and there is only one game difference.

Maybe I should get involved with predtermined matches for a fixed dollar amount????

Earlier this evening I played in the 11PM tourney with a $140 1st place. I drew a BYE in the first round. In the second round I drew a very inexperienced playerwho didn't know how to knock. I was a sure winner. NOPE. He drew 4 gins within the 3rd card. I had no chance to lay anything off. What a disaster but that's the way the game goes.

It would be nice to limit the tourneys to only those players we know are good but that's unfair and unrealistic.

Just dreaming, I guess.

Thanks for your replies...The fORUM is getting better

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
