i dont get it. first of all im not a big fan of the ranking system, and im still trying to figure out what the benefits are. it really makes me laugh when i see someone with a 1900 or higher ranking only playing people with high rankings, and they never leave themselves open to play anybody, always are in an invitation only mode. is there a prize for a high ranking that G/C gives out. the truth is the better players in G/C are the people with 1550-1750 rankings cause they re always playing the better talents most of the time, and losses will occur. so all you high rankers have fun with your big number rankings, maybe one day youll step up to the plate and really see how good you are. thinkorswim

That's why your first name is THINK.
It's about time someone addressed this issue and you hit it dead center. My rating can fluctuate 200 points a day because I enjoy playing higgher ranked players but also give players with a lower rating a chance to player a higher rated player. I also noted Higher Ranked players only playing players of equal rank. Come on guys, what you've accom[plished is limiting your play to a very few players.
In my many years of playing gin I've come to believe that the more diversified your play the better you're able to play.
Play the same people all the time and you learn nothing.
It's ironic but I'll bet my win/loss averages are just about 50% when playing the same players over and over. It's great fun but you go nowhere. Mix up your play and experience the way other players react and your game will improve greatly.
I've been challening one player for almost 6 months and he will not engage with me. His ranking fluctuates between 1900 and 2100. I bet I can give him the match of his life.
To prove this, just last week I played a very highly ranked and regarded player and his comment to me was, 'I can't track what cards you have, I'm not used to this style of play.' If I mentioned the player you'd be shocked. The game-plan I use for each player is different variable on his or her skills and that awful luck-factor.
I'll play all comers and enjoy every minute of it. The game is more improtant tha the win/loss percentage.
Thanks THINKorSWim for raising this subject. By the way, THINKorSWIM is quite a good player.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
