We are trying a new tourney at 5PM. It's targeted at High Rollers but everyone is invited to play. The entry fee is 15Tix and the prizes can be big depending on the number of players.

This is your chance to compete with the big-boys, and girls, and create a niche for the high rollers.

The first 5PM 15Tix Tourtney ran on Sunday, April 18. The 1st place winner received 38 tix.

This is a tourney that all should play in to win big tix.

All players are welcome to join us at 5PM. This is the first High-Roller Tourney of the day and it's designed for players at all skill levels.

You have to be in it to win it.

Update

The High-Roller tourneys are starting to get the respect they deserve. Tonight the 11PM tourney will pay 124Tix to the 1st place winner and 84 or so tix to the second place.

This is the payout that we've come to expect and other 'High Roller' tourneys will give you more chances to cash-in on these prizes.

This is all a function of the number of players so please make an effort to join us.

The tourneys are run by us for you. We work for nothing but the joy of the game and our fellow players.

Join us and have some fun.....

Congrats to Hdeskman

5PM Tourney Breaks 100Tix Payout
Posted by Ed_Blue (VIP) 20 Apr 2004 6:36pm

Don't say I told you so but I did. The number of High Tix Players at 5PM is higher than most other times of the day. THis is what I based my decision on to start this tourney. I believe I was right.

Today's tourney paid out over 100Tix to the two winners. This wouldn't be too much of a surprise for the 11PM tourney, 25Tix entry fee, but the 5PM tourney is a 15Tix entry fee.

1st place honors went to the great McMolar winning 66Tix. 2nd place was taken by the equally great Nadia and paid 35 Tix.

Could it be this tourney is here to stay?? I hope so but its up to you to join us and support our effort to make this work and prove to all players that Tourney Play is the way to go.

Remember, you can't win it unless you're in it.

Join us on Wednesday when we expect even more players to join.

just a little good ol

Ed, until the payouts/commissions are reviewed and changed, unfortunately the tourney participation will remain stagnate. It isnt a coincidence that the same players keep playing just as it isnt a coincidence that other players such as myself are aware of the tournies when announced but choose not to participate. I am actually a little surprised that Game Colony has realized that there is great revenue potential when we play tournies but hasn't made any significant changes to promote more players. There is a huge untapped number of players that I am sure would particiapte in these tournies if it made more financial sense. I am not gonna go into thelogistics as to why it doesnt make sense now, which by the way has been done here in the forum on a few occasions, but please just understand that I am not being critical of the tourny system, just the financial end of it which is keeping me, and I'm sure others, away. I will be the first one to jump in head first if Game Colony decides to make it more cost effective for us to participate. Keep up the good work though and hopefully down the road I'll see you in the tourny room.

Payout is 190Tix. 1st Place 124Tix
2nd place 66Tix

Both players in the finals are great and they deserve to be there. Diablo and Dosman. GL both.

By the way, there were 8 people in the tourney.

You have to be in it to win it.

As always, thanks for your reply.

I understand your point but tourneys are a factor of number of players. These tourneys are starting to pay out big tix and your colleagues seem to be the ones taking the top prizes. Except for me, that is. Just kidding.

Eight players represent 200Tix in fees with a payout of almost 5x your entry fee. These numbers speak for themselves and are formidable.

There seem toi be magic numbers in these tourneys and today's seem to be 8. I had 8 at 5PM and Spider had 8 at 11PM. I won 2 matches but lost to a great opponent, Diablo. Our matches are always incredibly close. The last match score was 199:178 and the one before was 197:196. We split these.

My dear friend Menkman, these are great matches with equally great players. I can't believe the tourney players are making a living in GC but I also believe this is not our objective.

I play as many 1:1 matches as I do tourneys. No I play 3x the 1:1 as tourneys. I enjoy both. I don't rely on GC for sustanance and I thoroughly enjoy being with the great people on this web site.

Think it over and join us. You have all the friends you need in these tourneys and we all respect you as a person and as a player.

The trend is going towards tourney's...don't miss the boat. WE all would love to see you cmpete with us....

just some feedback Ed

Ed,

LOL, I say this with ALL DUE RESPECT to you, but I when I play here I am not looking for my friends. Oh I enjoy some cordial conversations and enjoy the people I play with, but as for me joining the tournies b/c I will find all my friends there, well your not exactly on target with that one. As for the number of players in the tourny, well sure, the payout will be directly proportional (in GC's terminology of course) to the number of players involved. And the payout percentage will also be higher when lets say for example there are SIX players in the tourny versus FOUR (b/c of the bye chance and less games you have to win). But no matter how you slice it, if you figure the number games needed to win the payout, it still doesnt make financial sense (until someone can prove me wrong which I encourage) b/c you'd have to WIN the tourny or at least come in second to win at least something. Sure, if you WIN the tourny its GREAT financially and makes perfect sense! But what you need to take into consideration is the risk vs reward when it comes to tournies vs reg 'mini-tournies' or one on one games in the main room. The fun, enjoyment, and i'll even throw in excitement for ya is still there in tourny play, I acknowledge that. But I can get that in many other areas of my life without putting myself at a financial disadvantage. I hope this makes sense and again please dont take it as a knock on you, but rather as just some constructive feedback on how GC should really look into making the tourny system more appealing to more players.

Please understand I don't take your comments personally and I do appreciate your input. I think I've found the answer to our discrepany. I consider the entry 'fee' just that and its not part of the prize. As I said in a posting to the Webmaster, I pay the fee for the privelege of playing in a tourney and if I wein or lose the fee isn't a matter of contention. THis is my justification for stating if I 'win 126 Tix it is a win' not a return of my fee. There's the issue in a nutshell.

When we play 1:1 the payback is also 1:1, net of commission, and there is a disadvantage in that. It's hard to justify putting up 1 Tix to win 0.86 Tix. Doing this is just like using the fee as a 'buy-in'.

Using this logic, the risk/reward of a tourney is much less than the risk/reward of a single match. I know this sounds convoluted but if you view the tourney as I do it makes perfect sense. If the fee, or match, is 25 Tix, I stand to win at least 68 Tix in a tourney versus 23 Tix in a single match.

This may sound a bit way out but I'd love to have Calc_Guy intervene on this Chat to either justify or knock my logic out of the water.

As far as the 'friends' side of this argument, it's a no brainer. As you stated, I don't come to GC to make friends. But, its great to know there are people in GC I consider friends despite the fact I'll never get to meet them. I even consider you a friend and I think I'm a better person for the reason. I enjoy playing the game and also enjoy mixng with the players. I don't consider this a negative or a crutch. I do consider it part of my nature to make friends and be friendly.

As you stated, this is not a personal attack on you because I know you're a gentleman and your intentions are great. The point at issue will probably never be solved but I do suggest there is another point of view.

I'd love to hear your comments about my way of looking at tourney's.

Thanks again, my friend.

75 Tix To Winners
Posted by Ed_Blue (VIP) 21 Apr 2004 7:50pm

A total of 6 brave souls joined the tourney at 5PM today. 1st place was won by WILPAT and he received 49Tix. Second place was won by ANTIQYE amd she walked away with 26Tix. Each of them paid the 15Tix entry fee.

This is becoming a great tourney and we need all of you to join us to keep it going even stronger.

For those of you that refuse to play in Tourneys, you are missing out on a big thing that is growing bigger every day.

Try it, you'll like it.

You can't win it unless you're in it.

Thanks again for the 8 players yesterday and the 6 players today.

106 Tix Paid Out At 11PM

There it is again....The lowest payout in weeks and guess who won it. Yours truly.

I can't complain winning 69 Tix and I will admit the play from my opponents was nothing short of great. The DOSMAN came in 2nd winning 37 Tix. Those of you playing him know he's a very formidable opponent.

OK, I was sizzling hot tonight. I got the cards and I won. If I would have lost to any of my opponents, Antiqye, Peggy, Dosman, I wouldn't have minded.

I may be a rarity but I enjoy playing good players. I'm lucky enough to be able to afford to play at any stakes and that may be the reason behind my 'insanity'.

The 11PM tourney is an institution and its getting better players all the time. Come on guys and gals, join us.

Look what your missing....

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
