Competitive Styles

I hate to say I have the last word but my dear friend Julie, Yankeebaseball, has opened yet another great topic for discussion and that's 'Competitive Style' of play.
I must begin by stating that I've been labelled as 'the worst gin player in GC' just recently in yet another posting. Add this to your kind remarks and I'm probably in the very best situation to hustle almost anyone playing in the GC format.
The fact be known that I have beaten just about every player in the HR ranks and if I haven't beaten them I most certainly have given them a yoman's run for their money. As you stated, Julie, 'unfortunately I havent had the greatest success against ya' and that's because I'm not a 'weaker player' but choose to play matches that most others would run from. Case in point is my current, and ongoing, matches with a player consisantly ranked over 2,000. After many matches we are just about even. This player, you all know him, does not play for tix and he is good, real good.
Rather than ramble on about my kudos let me get to the points raised. I've played the GinDr many times in the past. I know who he is despite the various names he uses. We usually play for much lower stakes than he normally plays and we always have great matches. I'll venture to say, I am well ahead in our head-head matches. I'll also state he's a joy to match up with and he, by no means, thinks he's taking advantage of me.
I can fairly state that I've probably won more 11PM High-Roller tournies than anyone else. This is by no means a sign of weakness.
The difference between me and most is that I thoroughly enjoy playing gin. I will play anyone at any time and tend to challenge players with great w/l percentages to keep my competitive juices flowing. The money side of this equation is not as important to me as it apparently is to many others.
I don't bother to look at my w/l percentage beacuse it means nothing to me. If I am judged to be a 'weaker player' so be it. Please don't tell that to the 'better players' I consistantly beat. I hope some of them will speak up and verify this point.
Julie, I know you used me as an example to prove a point and I understand your rationale. Please don't consider players with less than 50/50 w/l record weak. If you do, you will surely be in for a very rude awakening.
great point Ed

Ed, I dont and have never considered you or even mentioned the word weak player. If I am wrong though and missed it somewhere along the way I apologize. Your choice to play whomever is in front of you is refreshing and a welcome sight. My point though was why (edited)someone will keep playing players with a sub par record. As he himself pointed out, he plays the percentages. And that means he has a better chance of beating players who obviously dont have a very good w/l track record in here. You are right that some sub 50-50 players are MUCH better than one thinks, but all one can think is 'I'll take that chance vs playing a 55-60% player' and that is why he continually plays those type of records.. Again, i have nor had any issues with him choosing to play what in 'his mind' are only sub par players. The issue and ONLY issue I have ever had was, and I know I keep repeating it, but I keep repeating it without any defense from him just so ya know, is the fact that he loses a tremendous amount of free games on purpose to lure in players who may not play him if he played with a higher amount of integrity. there is no defense there as records speak for themselves. His 59% $$ win record vs 41% in free games is consistent with every screen name he has one way or another. Ed, if you and any others are aware of this and still choose to play him, then that's great! At least you are aware and you made a knowledgable and educated choice. But like you said in an earlier post, I have the right to choose not play him and there is no doubt about that decision. I feel better as a player and as a person on this site by that choice and knowing that more players are now more aware of what is out there. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I'm sorry I gave you the wrong impression but I thought your posting was funny and I understood you were just using me as an example. I then began to think, an example of what. That's when I decided to respond. The association was a bit to direct. I did understand what youi said and I do appreciate you as a person and as a player. I've enjoyed our games and look forward to future games.
The person behind GinDr and I are also friends and I have a tendency to enjoy being with and playing against friends. It does have a tendency to lighten the atmosphere. When he and I play it is solely for the enjoyment of the game. I am not the target of his strategy. Both he and I know that.
Thanks for your reply

AM I WRONG IN THINKING THAT THE REASON THE LAST TOPIC 'GIN-MATCH-PLAYING' FORUM REPLIES WERE SHUT OFF IS BECAUSE OF THE EXACT TYPE OF POSTING THAT NOW HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO BE POSTED HERE? AS YOU KNOW - I & MY WIFE MADE A SPECIFIC REPLY THAT WAS NOT ALLOWED BECAUSE OF A REPLY OF SOMEONE ELSE. PLEASE, EITHER LET IT GO (NOW THAT SHE IS ALLOWED TO START UP THE EXACT THING UP AGAIN) OR AT LEAST FORWARD THE EMAIL I SENT YOU DIRECTLY . (edited) HAS TO BE AS GOOD FOR THE GOOSE AS IT IS FOR THE GANDER. TY & GL

MY POSITION

Dear Thinkorswim - I will be happy to explain my situation. I am at the computer & or on the phone for 11 hours daily. My (28) Sales Reps are from Boston to LA so my day starts early and ends late. If you see me in the room after 6pm (cst) it is either (not me) OR me maybe playing in a relaxing tourney. Honestly, I don't feel that I would be as sharp as I would like for a serious series-match. I choose to play my most serious matches from around 9am till 3:30pm. I would hope you could understand my position as I can understand your (& Menkmans) work schedule. WHY does this have to be about only ME playing a series-match? It sounds to me like you & Menkman both want to play a series-match after 7pm so Why Not Play Each Other ? (Arrangements should be sent in via Contact Us link by BOTH players) If you do - please leave feedback here in the forum about your pros & cons - It will go a long way in promoting and enhancing the GC experience, which can only be good for everyone. If you see me in the room on a weekend, maybe we could do a series-match then. Most of my weekends are filled with 'Honey-Do's & Bar-B-Ques', but sometimes I get in a game or two. (Hey, that rhymes) Seriously, Lets put a final stop to the negativity & personal attacks. I really don't have the time for it and I am finding it very boring and non-productive. I have agreed that the only feasible way for these series-matches to go forward is to play 2 out of 3 OR 3 out of 5 instead of what I really wanted and Zits (my Son) played with JimmyJoe. That was 3 AHEAD instead of a 'RACE TO' and the potential time element was a negative factor. However, now that were talking about only 'Race-Matches' & NOT 'Ahead-Matches' I will go back to being selective as to whom I choose to play. With 'Ahead-Matches', I was opening it up to All. As far as references to my Family & or Business, I would appreciate it if you guys would refrain from any negativity. ED_BLUE knows my (800)# and my Corporate Website address & info. While I know Ed would never divulge my private info - I would hope & think EVERYONE could & will believe it if Ed verifies it. BOTTOM LINE to all: You guys aren't going to effect or change me & I realize I'm not going to effect or change you! Lets all go forward and enjoy! TY & GL

Just a very brief, for a change, response. This posting has nothing to do with match or series play. It is a comment about playing style and how they're perceived within the GC family.
If it appeared as if I attacked anyone, Yankee-Baseball, it was not intentional. The 'Style of Play' issue is very real and it could be a great talk-point in the Forum.
Last night I had the opportunity to play one of the ptotagonists of the series play controversy. As usual, it was a great match but one thing stands out above all and that is 'Style of Play'.
I began the match on a very cordial and friendly note and my opponent was equally courtious. As we played, I commented 'GG', 'VNH' etc. My opponent replied but then stated. 'I don't chat while playing.' My response was, 'sorry...no problem.' We finished the match and then we chatted.
This is his style and it is 100% acceptable. He is a true gentleman and I enjoy our matches.
I like to hear other discussions on 'Style of Play' because, frankly, I really can't understand some of the things going on in GC regarding player athics and responses.
Thanks for the postings

I am a bit fuzzy about your referrals to me in your last posting. I do know who you are and I do have your phone numbers and e-mail addresses. I also enjoy chatting with you on the phone and in Chat. Additonally, I restate the fact that we've played some matches, not very many, and we engage each other for the pleasure of each other's company and the game. The fees are diminutive.
I feel I'm a very easy person to get along with and state openly I have a great number of 'friends' in the GC family. I would rather be friendly with other players than be an antagonist/ I enjoy the site, the game and the players. When I come across a player I don't like, and those are few, I just don't play them any more. I've also been know to divuilge the names of those players to my friends when they ask.
Hope this answers your posting.

Thank you for your offer but I must decline at least for now. Final exams are coming up next week and that is where my priorities are right now. Also, I don't have too good of a taste in my mouth for serious gin matches after the way jimmyjoe crushed me. I also don't wish to play someone as good as you. I don't have any problem in stating that you appear to be much better than me. Thanks anyway and gl

This posting was supposed to be about a different subject. This also is starting to go sour and I'm certain the subject will be closed or should be closed.
I tried to keep it on track but couldn't do it.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
