Ramp,
You're currently #332 on the ladder. Compared to Top Twenty, your Ladder level is sort of like ... Little League vs. Major League?
I believe that you can get to be a Major Leaguer here in little steps -- it can hardly be a fast lane bus ride.
There are several provisions here on this Ladder that make it quite dynamic:
(*)On the 1st of every month, after prizes are distributed, Top Ten players are dropped 20 ladder spots. (*) There are several inactivity provisions that result in various penalties for Top Ten, Top Twenty and the rest of Ladder players.
Full Ladder rules are described at: http://www.gamecolony.com/ladder_rules.shtml

The higher ranked ladder players are playing money only games and not adhering to the usual ladder rules i.e. when asked for a game they ignore you.
On $Ticket Ladder games ...

Most top players here are not interested in playing non $Ticket games - it takes a competitive edge off their game
It takes a minimum of $5.95 to open a $Ticket account and start playing for $Tickets

That defeats the purpose of the ladder!!! I wont play for money - EVER- I play for fun - so therefore I have stopped playing ladder games as you CAN NEVER get to the top unless your willing to pay!
WHY NOT HELP.

Not to be redundant, the money players make it possible for the non-money players to use the site. I've played numerous no-money matches to give the non-money players an opportunity to climb the ladder. But, and here it is again,WEBBIE is also correct. I've noticed myself slacking off a bit when I play non-money players and this has made me slip below 50/50 win/loss percentage.
On the other hand, the investment to play for fees is minimal and it gives the added incentive to win thus concentrating a bit more. From a player's point of view, the LADDER is open to all but the money players should have the benefit of accelerated LADDER play because we are the players that keep GC running.
It's interesting to see the FORUM postings by non-money players. They seem to be a bit more critical than the money players. Let's face it, if you don't pay your way you should be a bit more tolerant. I'm sorry but this is my opinion and not others.
By the way, I'm not trying to start another war of words in the FORUM. I'm just giving my humble opinion.

Hi my friend. My point is I love to play anyone but there is a bit more challenge playing for tix. I believe GC has researched the 'gambling' issue and would not let people in a forbidden state play for tix.
My point is simple and is based on the number of players playing for tix and the players non-dollars. The higher rated non-cash players refuse to play the rest of us and restrict their play to the very few others in their ratimg range. The lower ranked non-cash players challenge us sometimes but seem to prefer playing other non-cash players and that's their choice.
I agree that black comes before blue but that's only a technicality. The GC site is geared to all players and that's wonderful. But, and there it is again, as Sam put it, someone has to pay the bills and the cash players do that. Tourney play is another option. Not all tourneys are high tix but if you win you can get multiples of your entry fee back. Try it, you may like it.
Hope this explains my point. BTW, if you see me in the MAIN ROOM, give me a shout and I'll play you for tix or for no-tix. It would be my pleasure. AS long as you say, HI/GL/GG. That's all I ever ask of an opponent.
See ya soon.

Please don't get me wrong. I think its wonderful for GC to offer cash and non-cash play. My point is latitude and how much can be given to what players. The answer is obvious because GC is not in this for fun.
As far as woman's play is concerned, wow. There are a bunch of them that blow me away daily and that's a good thing.
I assume this all started with free play for all but once a following was established the bills had to be paid. I don't know the site owners personally but whoever designed this site was nothing short of a genius. I can't begin to imagine the hours, days, weeks and months it took to program this site. I do know there has been a small fortune spent by the owners to inprove service and cut down on lag time. Someone has to pay for this and those that do deserve a bit more than those who don't. What I can't understand is the non-cash, non-contributing, players seem to have a lot to say and that again is a good thing.
I love to compete and would like to get a shot at some of the non-cash players who refuse to play us since they limit their play to only those rated at or higher than themselves. It's only a matter of time before we forget about those players and get on with the enjoyment of cash and non-cash play that GC has given us.
I hope this clears the waters a bit. There is room for both types of players but each should be a bit more flexible if the site is to survive and prosper.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
