I just wanna say thanks to the Forum, for a couple of things. Not only is it really interesting reading, it has already been helpful to me personally in the short time i've been checking it out. Not only have i learned some common courtesy things that i may not have been aware of having to do with chat...and that there are real people on the other end of those funky names...real interesting people. I'm lovin life. BUT ALSO: I think I must speak for everyone out there in the game room that has, even temporarily, a low rating. It is so discouraging to invite 'biggies' to your table, knowing they will never come. Once I received the comment from someone who shall remain nameless (but whose name should be TooBig4MyDoowopBritches)- i invited him to join my table, and he wrote back: 'You've got to be kidding.' Ahem. So anyway, I'm here to glorify, not to tattle. I want to thank all of you who've gone out of your way to play w/me; for the most part you beat the pants off me, so i wasn't able to show off and impress you. But I promise any and all of you a good game, whenever, wherever. So thanks...give the 1500's a break once in a while...and aloha to all. xxx yoyo

Nice post YoYoRating I can sure relate to your comments about high rated players, but there are a few who will play so I keep trying. It's understandable when they don't play if rating is that important to them, but it was a tad rude whoever made the comment about 'you gotta be kidding'...not so bad for them to just not play, but don't rub it in. lol

Glad you enjoy the forum, as I do. Thanks for taking part!

I fully understand your statements and its a pleasure doing battle with you. The 'ratings' issue is a big one. Bigger for some than others. Look at it this way, they are the ones losing out on good and tough play. They also have a tendency to forget where they came from....and not to long ago.

Your rating has improved a bit, just as I suspected. I personally thank you for becoming part of our GC family and I appologize for the rudeness that seems to be inherent in the Internet Games.

As you said, enjoy the games.

GUYS: Forum resulted in HUGE realization 4 me

When I read that using the BAN button is uncool and could be hurtful to someone, i stopped using it at once. In fact I haven't banned anybody from my table since, without some sort of explanation to them...and in doing this, not only am I being nicer; I've experienced a very important realization. I asked myself why I would have wanted to ban anyone in the first place...easy: RATINGS! I want the high numbers! I find I'm highly competitive and motivated by those numbers. Which is fine. But that is a separate thing, and has nothing to do with the reason I'm here -the wonderful splendid groovy game of GIN, which is the one thing which I KNOW we all have in common. In real life, if anybody wanted to play gin w/me, at a real table, I'd sit myself down and play. Somebody's grandma, somebody's kid (if they were smart), whoever. No question about it. So I'm trying to approach all games with all comers as though it were real life, not the mass horse race we all have come to know and love. If I can have both, all the better. But the point of it all is the game of gin, and I want to play as many hands in my lifetime as I can. I welcome all comers, and I will surely try to kick all butts. Aloha to all. xxx

I enjoy your posts very much, and find myself looking for you when I go to play. So far you've always been in a game, but I'll catch you one of these days. Meanwhile if you see me free please ask for a game.

It's so nice to know that the forum DOES affect some, and is enjoyed by many. Much debate over many issues, but the ones that seemed to get the most responses dealt with rudeness and manners. You are SO right...if we all approached the game as if we were sitting across the table with family and friends I think we would think twice about how we present ourselves. I know it's difficult for some to grasp that concept, but on the other end there are actually real live people with feelings just like you and me. And, as in real life, there are also all kinds and I try to make allowances for the ones that don't care to chat etc, but as I've often said there is NO excuse for out and out rudeness.

Looking forward to those games!

Happy Ginning

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
