The 'ladder'

I would just like to say what a waste of time the 'ladder' is. This site is supported by money players. The bigger the money the more vig for the site. All these 'perks' should be used to encourage more money players. The ladder should be weighted to account for the dollar amount the game is being played for.

This is a real tough subject. When the LADDER was created no-one knew how much the top 10 positions would pay out and there was a flurry to get to the top. One month I finished 4th and I was #1 for almost 2 weeks. I must admit I was having fun but it cost me a fortune to stay in the running.

The LADDER is another way to compete and it must create a bundle for GC due to the number of players vieing for the top of the heap. I have no problems with offering another way to compete and the present format is fair, Weighting the LADDER based on the dollar value of fees defeats the purpose of the LADDER. It's now open to cash and non-cash players and that's a good thing. The advantage of the cash players is if you are a toruney player. You move up one ranking for winning a tourney. That doesn't sound like much but if you're already in the top five it's significant.

When I finished #4 I was dueling with the others above me and lost one position on the last day. The person in first was untouchable at that time but so goes the LADDER.

Now we have 4 ways to compete:
Cash
W/L Percentage
Rating
LADDER
I can't wait for the next variants to be created by the brains at GC.

Specker - No, not a waste of time!

As a genius once posted - All Ratings, %'s & stats are irrelevant. The ONLY stat that counts is 'Cash-Outs', IF you’re 'BLUE'. But I find the ladder as a good assistant in getting games. I personally have NO interest or ego in the ladder but find that more players play ladder games for some reason. Wouldn't it be great, Specker, if there was a monthly 'Cash-Out' Ladder??? - What a $maker that would be for GC!

Each month top 10 Ladder players receive Bonus Tickets. These Tickets can be used (and are used) for $play.

This website is sponsoering a game a skill, not a game of chance. For this reason 'Cash-Out' would serve no purpose other than to give outsiders the wrong impression.

Another scenerio is the number of tix played. It stands to reason that a higher tix player will cash-out, he/she hopes, more tix than purchased. This wouild be biased towards the Higher-Rollers and that, I believe, is against policy of giving all players and equal chance to play and compete at all levels.

There should be a seperate ladder for non-cash players. Maybe after getting a few dollars for 'free', they would play some money games.

Could be true. The issue is free-play versus cash-play and that's solely a decision of the GC owners. If non-cash players eventually become cash players I agree with allowing free play. It seems this is not happening and the non-cash players are getting quite vocal. I smile when I see this phenomina because it is amazing that non-cash players would jeopardize their 'free-ride'. The plain fact is that we are funding their free play.

This is a harsh statement but it's unquestionably true. The silent minority, are not so silent and this does raise the issue of free-play versus cash-play. I have nothing against people that truly can't afford to play for tix, and there are many, but those that get the freeby and complain leave a bit to be desired.

I'm not trying to start a landslide and/or a campaign against any type of play but this is the real issue.

As far as the LADDER is concerned, non-cash players have virtually no impact or chance of finishing in the top 10 based on the number of cash players competing for those spots and the one over-riding factor; if you win a tourney you move up one spot. Tourney's are for tix only.

Chasing the ladder is foolish,

But if you happen to be there or thereabouts it is worth considering your chances of winning it. Two months ago I was No 1 on both Gin and Crib ladders on the last day. No one was going to catch me on the Gin ladder (it was a fluke i was there by the way) The crib ladder 11am Tourney the no2 player was not in the tourney, the no3 player was i still went in for the TR I happened to draw him if I lost and he won TR i woulda lost my top spot (oh my god I woulda lost 4 Tix what was I thinkin) I was thinkin I am one of the best Crib Players on here and I run from no-one, everyone wants the No 1 Spot for a bit of bragging rights, The other advantage is everyone wants to play you so you can win more tix of the lesser skilled players that think they have a point to prove, so it works both ways. Doubt I'll ever win the Gin ladder again unless luck comes along, but 3 in a row on crib without trying I am happy to take the bonus tix AND MOST OF ALL THE BRAGGING RIGHTS BRAG BRAG BRAG Ps those of you that know me wont be offended.

Kudos To The Dosman......

Well done.....

I also finished the GIN LADDER one month in the top 4 and held the #1 spot for a week or so the following month. It did feel good but I must say it did cost a few too many tix.

DOSMAN is one of the better players in GC, Gin that is. I don't know too much about Cribbage but I do know many of the better Gin Players also play Crib and that does say a lot about the game.

Regarding DOS' comment, 'Ps those of you that know me wont be offended,' he is absolutely correct. I play against him every day and many times during the day. He is a fierce competitor and if I had the chance I'd back him any time. Yep, he is also a money player at all levels of play; as am I.

Good posting DOSMAN.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
