Where have all the players gone?.. I am wondering could all the people I use to play have tapped out, bit the bullet, taken the down escalator... The good action is drying up.

Could it be........

Hi Specker: Your observation is interesting and it tends to prompt yet other questions. It is one of those thangs you feel obligated to reply to even if you may be wrong.

Your statement implies the lack of quality games....Did you ever play, high or low stakes, with a player that seemed to pull every card you needed but didn't get an opportunity to draw it? Let's say I have two fives and a four and six of diamonds on the opening draw. The upcard is a five of diamonds and your opponent takes the five of diamonds before you get a chance to draw it. You consider the options and decide the opening draw must be a speculation with a maximum potential of drawing a run of fives. This couild be considered a natural assumption. You wait a few draws for that five you know your opponent can't do anything with without your help and he/she quick gins or knocks on you and you get stuck with the 20 points only to find the original 5 Diamonds didn't help your opponent's hand at all.

If this sort of thing happens throughout your match and your opponent builds a substantial lead without you being able to fill in a decent lay does it tend to make you wonder a bit?

Added to this misery, you manage somehow to get back into the match and both of you are within the 175 points needed to win. The next deal is wonderful. It's a dream hand and you have 8 ways to gin-out or at least knock quickly. Ah oh, your opponent gins on the second card and you lose.

If this happens in two straight matches, since you have agreed to play 2/3, what do you think of the playing skill of your opponent if he or she is the one that posts a FORUM Message about'the action drying up'?

This scenario seems to be the driver behind a very quick run up in ratings but to rub it in is inexcusable especially when the Forum posting coincides with your own experience with that same player.

It appears that 'action' and luck seem to be synonomous.

Think about it and consider a posting that the good 'action is drying up'. Maybe its due to this sort of thing and not the true quality of your oponents.

The obvious answer is to play that opponent again to prove your point but that would only be fueling his/her original point.

My observations could be 180 degrees from reality but a bit of sensitivity may, or should, be observed before making profound (?) statements.

Where is the lack of quality really lacking?

I'm not talking about any specific players or game..I'm talking about players who use to on line all the time but haven't been around for a long time.

OOPS......

My humble appologies Specker. I was under the impression your posting was placed at just about the time we played each other. If I misunderstood you I appologize but the coincidence is a bit to bold.

If you recall, I tried to have a friendly match with you but it didn't work out that way. My inclination is to do battle with you but my better judgement says the game of GIN is just that, a game, and not a battle as you perceive it to be.

I don't think I'm wrong in enjoying the site, the players and the game. When any of the above stops being enjoyable I will say adios.

I'm sure you won't mind but I'd venture to guess that more players would support my staying than yours.

Your staying

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
