I really do miss the infamous Calc_Guy. I was thinking of him earlier today after a great 8 match run when my rating went from somewhere in the mediocre range to 1747. I guess the reason for the gain was the combination of playing 1700 players and winning backto-back tourneys. Late last night, I was challenged by a player and I try to acept all challenges. The first had she got me for 65 pts in a 125 game and I won the rest. The night was good.
When the hurricane landed this evening it started with the 8PM tourney that I lost to a 1469 rated player; I was at 1747 at the time. I then dueled with a formidable player that you all know and love(?). I won the first match easily. The second match was a close one but I lost and lost the next two.
Is rating worth the effort? For me the answer is no but I can see what the rush of a high rating is.
Oh where are you Calc_Guy. Even you would have played me in a rated match...

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
