IDEA WHEN WAITING FOR A MH PLAYER TO JOIN

Hi all --
When we set a table in MH and wait for an opponent, sometimes there's quite a delay. Sitting at the table gets tiresome and claustrophobic . Some of us like to do other tings while waiting [read email, check the stock market, etc]; yet, not miss an opponent.
Being a sumdumdame, I'm not a techno-queen; but, it would sure be great if GC could do it's magic to the program so that we'd be alerted when someone joins the table. Maybe an arm can reach out through our screens .....and slap us up side da head!
In $$ games, it will make moolah for GC, as it will keep people in the MH Room and playing, instead of them leaving and returning later.
Just a little thought. Any ideas?
Thanks, 'Summy'
There's a solution but ...

This posting puzzled me twice:
First, I thought that MH stood for a mahjong game & it took awhile to see that the posting was about Gin Main Hall...
Second puzzle was that most players in similar circumstances of waiting at a table & doing other tings while waiting [e.g., reading email, etc.] would be instantly alerted by a distinctive ring -- like a telephone ring...
With older systems (Windows 95, Windows 98) it is advisable, however, to turn the sound off. In newer systems (Windows 2000 & Windows XP)Microsoft has fixed several Java/sound-related issues.
As the year 2005 draws near, fewer & fewer people will use the above ancient Windows systems & there'll be fewer reasons to re-invent the wheel.
We think that a simple distinctive ringing sound would alert a bit more conveniently than a 'slapping arm'.
Cheers, -web
I know how

I tell you what I do..just grab the table corners and squeeze them together so the table becomes small. I can do my mail, check the market and paint my toenails while still watching the table.
TY for the reply and suggestion ======

Now, THAT is wishful thinking!

ROFL Yes, I am one of the ones with no sound turned-on. I didn't even know ther's a bell when an opponenet enters, or wouldn'tt have written the suggestion.
TY also to Scarlett - funny post --- and, tried doing the BOTH sides screen squeeze, and seems to be working.

you know what i wish i could do, i wish i could click someones name and send a noise or two to alert them when i want their attention in the tourney lobby. but then i guess people would be beeping and clanging other people all over the place and it could get annoying. you do have an option however to get an alert when someone joins your table, its one of the only things i usually check under preferences so i know when someone has finally come in. i wouldnt mind if i could increase the volume when i walk away from the computer though, so add a volume dial to your request. thanks love, jammies

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
