What are they Watching??
Posted by reddy2pla 9 Dec 2004 7:37pm

Hi folks, i have a question or two about 'watchers'. First of all, what are they watching? They can't see the players' cards (although on Yahoo gin there is that option). What fun could it be to just watch when u can't see the cards? Also, when i was playing a game yesterday, there was a 'watcher' who clearly was a friend of my opponent. He hung out the whole time, and their conversation (I assume) not only held up the game, i had the distinct impression he was giving her advice. I guess my main question is: is there no way to prevent someone from watching your game (or having private conversation with opponent)? can't we 'ban' watchers? Thanks for reading. xx reddy

Watching is disallowed for $Ticket games only.

Watchers can see open cards at the end of the hand, they can see how/where cards move & they can see the scores.

Given the fact that watchers see quite little, for fast-paced games watchers are hardly in a position to give good advice.

The issue isn't whether advice is good or bad!

It's not that some watcher is going to help my opponent win the game. It's that the presence of a third person hanging out for the whole game, presumably chatting with and distracting my opponent, slows the game down considerably.
Since we both agree that 'watchers see quite little,'...and as i mentioned in my earlier post, I don't know why they are there...it makes me wonder why you said that 'Watching is disallowed for $Ticket games only.' If you don't see watchers as a problem in a fast-paced game, why do $Ticket holders not have to deal with them? There is no way to have a 'fast-paced game' unless both players are concentrating on playing. Do you think that because I am not a $ player I am less bothered by distractions? Not so, dear webmaster.

Membership in the Ticket club at Gamecolony.com has its priviledges. Ticket players at Gamecolony.com have more options than free players. One of this options is no watchers at games. Please consider becoming a ticket player. It only costs 5.95 for the initial purhase.

My final comments on this...

So, membership in Ticket club has its privileges, and one of them is the option to ban watchers. I can understand that, and it seems like a nice option.
When you replied to my first posting that watchers 'are hardly in a position to give good advice in a fast-paced game,' I doubt you believe that, or you wouldn't consider banning watchers 'a privilege.'
All I asked is whether we can ban them. The answer is: only if you are a Ticket Club member. Thanks for responding. Always, reddy2pla

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
