I've noticed ranks dropping bad if people don't play for awhile. Is this true? How come this happens?

If a player is idle on Ladder, other Ladder players will leap-frog over that player, causing this player's Ladder rank to drop -- Ladder is dynamic.

In case you didn't understand the answer. When two players play and the lower ranked player wins you go half way between the difference in ranking between the two so half the players in between will drop one rank when the lower player wins. Multiply that by every game going on where the lower ranked wins and you can drop a lot if many others are playing. Plus ladder tournaments have many players and they can affect the ladder rankings a lot. Once your high it takes a while to drop because there aren't many higher playing as most players are below you.
Hope you understand the system. Play regularly and your chances of staying high then depend on you and if you win. Same for everyone. Enjoy.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
