ladder

I think anyone who thinks about it will not think much about the Ladder. Yippee...I play 'cause I like to. Doesn't matter who - unless you're abusive or really slow!

One rule that needs to change is this one:
'...the players in Top Ten can play no more than 1 Ladder game in 24 hours with a player whose ranking is within 8 rungs from their own ranking.'

Who cares about playing multiple games? I don't pay any attention to rank and at least one player refused to play me in a game because we had already played. Truthfully, I didn't even know this rule existed. If you're going to have this rule, have it so the switch is turned off for ladder so that we don't inadvertantly break it...or, do away with the rule.

Kudos for your posting. It was always my pleasure losing to you since you won most of the games. The LADDER thing was fun last year when it was new. I got to 1st a few times and it didn't mean a thing to me. I fully agree with you that the quality of the game is more important than anything else.

I have a problem with slow play and my adversaries know it. There are times when I want to out myself from tournys when I see certain 'slow Players' sign up. I usually play and I usually get them and I usually lose to them. I guess I'll never learn.

Jorge has played me when I was at 1,800 and 1450. He is a real gentleman and quite a fine player. There are a few that you don't mind losing to since the games are so good.

Come one, come all. Both Jorge and I will play you at any rating.....

Just Give Me An Up Game

I agree about the ladder---it is fun to climb, particularly the first time. However, neither ranking nor lack of rank should excuse players from accepting invites. I have watched myself drop 50-100 positions over a day or two simply for want of an up game. That is just plain wrong for those who belong to and purportedly support a ladder. As I have moved up, I will ALWAYS play a game, most often quickly and of caliber, regardless of my rank or potential loss of rank. Here's to hoping others will follow suit. Kent

Per jorgeviola's posting, the Top Ten 24-hour rule is being changed to informational only - it is auto-enforced:
'the players in Top Ten can play no more than 1 Ladder game in 24 hours with a player whose ranking is within 8 rungs from their own ranking'

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!. According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!).   The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
