Don't often weigh-in on these; however: Ladder rung advancements for frequency of play does not set too well with me. If the Ladder is theoretically a measure of skill in match play [and in frequency soley to maintain standing], seems it ought to remain that way. Close to the start of the month, someone[s] {with way too much time}, can easily play 100 qualifying games [with each other] to [each] advance 5 rungs.
Just a little thought.
The increased monthly Bonuses are delightful.
Cheers,
Sum

Apparently the prospects of extra cash for the folks at gamecolony is the reason behind this latest attempt to upgrade. The ability to 'buy ' rank is not good and should be abolished immediately. There is no skill involved in buying your way to the top. Sometimes the best changes are the ones we never make. Think it over, I think you will find that if its not broken, dont fix it.
We'll see how it goes ...

The Ladder rules for July, 2005 have been set 'in stone'. Based on July, we'll see how it goes & whether tweaking the Ladder Points becomes necessary.
Ladder Points may have to be tuned per game. For example, 5 $Ticket games in Gin are far below average while same entry fee in other games is somewhat above average. However, average Ladder boost from mini-tourneys may be still equalized among the players within the game...
Those players who generally have a 55% or greater winning record, may not view these rule changes as 'spending' but rather as an opportunity to win.
Additionally, as prizes will be significantly increased (not just for the 1st place!), it is only fair that those who play in Tournaments and Mini-Tourneys frequently and, thereby, support this site, get an extra Ladder boost.
Good point

Although I thought the idea of rewarding tournament play was good I see the viewpoints of jja and sumdumdane and realize they have very good points on this. The regualr games are good for GC and many would do it anyway but one on one match play isn't necessary and can be avoided if you don't want to play people above you to get ahead. Just play anyone who plays for 5 tix whether good or bad. Interesting and possibly a detriment to the ladder system. I think they have a point. Watch for the end of month handling of this. I see many opportunities to use that system.
Here is one example I already found. If someone is #1 and plays #2 and wins they should stay #1. However if #2 is playing his 20 tix game for 5 tix they will take over the #2 spot anyway regardless of the outcome of that match. Seems unfair to me. This can happen all over the system but is especially unfair to the #1 player since they lose the highly paid position and if this happens on the last day it would be most unfair.
Good thing to think about.
ALL LADDER GAMES

ALL GAMES SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY BE LADDER GAMES. YOU GOT SOME PLAYERS LIKE KDSKDS WHO ONLY SET GAMES AS NON LADDER GAMES UNLESS HE CAN PLAY SOMEBODY WHO HAS A BETTER LADDER RANK THAN HE DOES.
ALSO MOST OF THE LADDER PLAYERS PLAY EVERY DAY SO THE 6 OR 7 DAY CHALLENGE RULE SHOULD BE CHANGED TO 2 DAYS MAXIMUM.
I agree....

Safetyjoe has a good point.....challenges should be less than 7 days. 3 days would make the LADDER more Dynamic! Definately increase COMPETITION!
After all we all are here to have FUN! Not to become frustrated!
Best Regards and Play Well!

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
