I find it tedious to go through so many responses and besides sooner or later you have to go hunting lol
I differ with you Ed on 'The computer is the wedge, or weapon, of a nasty person that doesn't have the guts to face his or her daily contacts.'
The nonresponsive players are NOT always nasty people using the computer as a wedge between themselves and the real world. You've been around long enough to know this is not 'always' (bad choice of words) true. There are many reasons why some do not respond and I'm sure you have to know that, so to use the word 'always' is not a good idea.
I just spoke to a very nice player yesterday who hasn't been around long. She told me she was uncomfortable chatting and half the time never even notices her opponent has typed in the box. I told her I understood and if she would just take the time to type gl or hi - or anything - at the beginning, and maybe a gg or tyfp after it would be nice, but not to worry about it.
Whether you like it or not there ARE players who come to GameColony just to relax and play games. Why should they feel obligated to chat? - and that is why I blow it off when I don't get a response even to my greeting in the beginning or my gg or tyfp etc after. Life is too dang short to worry about silly things like that my friend.
I personally enjoy a little chat as long as it's not in the middle of playing, but that's me and the others are 'them' and that does not make them necessarily 'nasty people' - just different from us. The ones that ARE nasty don't deserve to be discussed - just ignore them.
Enjoy life..enjoy your games and SMILE...you may be on candid camera. rofl

If I implied 'always' I was wrong. What I meant is that people will do things on the computer that they wouldn't do in person. As I stated, this action, or lack thereof, doesn't affect my game at all. It is just a point that I've noticed all my life and that point is to respect others if you want them to respect you.
The people on my 'list', although that means nothing to most, have gone beyond plain rudeness and failure to repsond. I understand that some people just don't do that. I must be misunderstood if I brought the impression that everyone must repsond to me. I am taslking about common gestures of good faith and rude peole that go out of their ways to make abrassive comments that are unwarranted.
You, my friend, are a gentleman and will never be on the list. We chat as a coutesy to one another and never in excess or during a match. The onlyu comment I may have made to you during a match is 'nice hand' and only when it was a skilled move you made that I noticed.
We don't have a misunderstanding between us and I don't consider this 'the end of the world'. I just want to let others know that rudeness has become part of GC and its sad because of the incredibly high quality of the site.
As a amtter of fact, I even smile when I lose a match that I shouldn't have lost - I guess I've either felt sorry for myself or foolish for making a bad call. I do enjoy the game all the time. If I didn't I'd quit.
Guess we run into different players

I've been here quite awhile Ed and for the life of me don't know where you find these 'nasty' players. I have no doubt you do, or you wouldn't be so upset with them, but for myself I could count on one hand the number of offensive remarks, and as I said the nonreponsive don't really bother me.
Guess we play different opponents and I feel badly that some apparently get carried away with you. I've always known you to be polite and friendly so what gets them upset enough with you to become rude? Beating them maybe?
I still say they aren't worth the energy to generate any unhappiness for you. AGAIN I say...ignore them.

I think I've figured it out. I have to be one of the politest players in GC and I always reply even when beaten badly.
I just lost in the second round of the 8PM tourney and I know why players react to me. I play very fast and this irritates quite a few players. I was discussing this very thing with one of the better TD's and she agrees that the slower players really hate the fast players. It is also a fact that if a 150 match lasts almost 30 minutes, someone is a bit too slow. You this is yet another issue but is probably related.....sloooow play.
My list now conatins only seven players and all of them deserve it. If I'm in a tourney with one of them, as I was tonight, I let it be known that there is one of the players on my list in this tourney.
Childish, I guess so but let me have a little fun also. Especially if I spend almost an hour,in the 25Tix hr tourney and get into the finals. After that hour I finally got to play and naturally lost due to shear boredom. I guess when you play enough you'll get to meet everyone and every kind of player.
One more example is the player that doesn't shut-up in the pre game but takes 30 secs to make every move. I can't figure it out. If you can your a better man than me....which is possible.
Think about it.........

I'm considering changing my name to HIgl2u-GG!. Would this cover me? In the last few days I've become supersensitive to the subject. I say to myself 'Did I remember to say gg? I think I did, I just can't remember.......I'll just say it again.' I'm becoming like the Game Colony Rainman....... I'm praying I don't come up against one of those players that insists on commenting on every hand.......vnh, gh, vnh, gh...I don't think I could handle the pressure
All kidding aside. Chatting is optional. Period. Far be it from anyone to quilt some 86 year old man on the other side of the world into feeling he has offended me by not acknowledging me. Perhaps, he has much more important things on his mind.
Ed- You stated that you felt the gentleman that had stated to you that he didn't engage in conversations had handled himself to your liking. The fact that he acknowledged you seems to be what was acceptable to you. To you I respectfully say.... so what if someone chooses not to acknowledge you. It could be a 13 year old child who is forbidden to engage in any online interaction or a terminally ill person that has much more pressing concerns. It's a large world out there with much else going on. Think about it.
GG ALL.........

Hi Ed I may be one of those people. I usualy play at the end of my day after a couple of Samuel Adams or Anchor Steams. I have my feet up and leaning back in my chair. Often I miss the chat because it is very easy to overlook it in the game clutter and other times I simply don't feel like moving to reach the keyboard. I plead guilty to being lazy but not being rude.

You are not my intended target. You have every right to play and enjoy GC the same as all of us. 'Rudeness' is the issue. If we played a tight match to 150 or 200 and it was touch and go right down to the last hand it is my pleasure to say 'GG'. I'm no obligated to say it but I do prefer, the operative is 'I', to recognize all my opponents with at leat a 'Hi and GL'.
Enjoy the games since that is what GC has made it possible for us to do.

You happen to be one of the nicer and better players on GC. I can't remember a time we did battle that you even had the slightest hint of being rude.

Those who know me understand what I mean. No, there is no GC rule that all players must satisfy my criteria for greetings. I do enjoy the other players and the money part of it is not as important to me as others; I am fortunate.
Your comment about the 'terminally ill', I am saddened to say that some of the players I had the opportunity to share time with were terminally ill but they are the ones that needed and demanded chat.
I should take the game more serious than I do but I am considered, I hope, one of the nicer people in GC and hope I am also considered a fairly decent player.
With my appologies, you're going in the wrong direction but if this makes you think more about being a good person that's just fine.

ed, as you know ive always been a big fan of yours. you tell it like it is, and you are a gentleman, always gives me a battle, you make me bring my game to thenext level. but, im here for one reason, to make money, im not here to chat and be polite, i have my own set of rules, many think im unsportsman or rude, but i always play to win, and dont lose on purpose. You are probably one of the few i enjoy chatting with. its ok if someone beats me soundly, thats part of the game, i hate the moaners and the whiners.
love u ed

I am one of the few that knows you are you are a pussycat. You are a tiger against most but I enjoy playing with you. You do chat with me. Are you saying that I'm the only person you chat with? I don't believe it.

If you remember, you brought this topic up on the forum to begin with. I read through all of your posts. You invited others to offer thier opinions. In one post you claimed to place two additional players on your 'list' because neither acknowledged you. NOT because they spoke to you rudely but because they didn't speak to you at all. I simply asked you to consider other possible reasons for thier silence. This has nothing to do with my needing to believe that I am a better person. I'm sure your a descent guy but, frankly, I consider that response to be 'rude'.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
