Attention to all:
Per pearle6 (TD) suggestion, we have created an account called KATRINA_RELIEF. GC has deposited $100 in the account. We will use this account to collect donations for Katrina relief fund. All money accumulated in this account will be send to Red Cross in October, 2005. We will also announce a special benefit tourney with all proceeeds to go to KATRINA_RELIEF. Stay tuned...
Terrific

Thanks Pearle for this idea. Also thank you for the donation of your time in hosting special tournaments.
This is a chance for all of us to do a small part in helping with recovery from our country's worst disaster.
An easy way to contribute would be simply use contact us to transfer tickets from player account to this special account. There is never a fee for transferring tickets so any contribution we want to make would be for the total amount transferrred.
The GameColony players, tds, administrators and the webs made a nice contribution after 9-11 in a similar manner. No matter how large or how small these dollars WILL make a difference.
Thank you Pearle!
How can we help?

playing in these special benefit tourney will help
ask contact us to trans. some tix over to this relief acct.
STOP whining. turn up the thermostat 3 degrees. you don't have to be in perfect comfort all the time. this saves lots of fuel in the long run.
don't run down your gas tank below half. try to carpool and make a list of things you need to do when you are out.. quit running errands separately.
if you have a business and need employees try to hire one of these displaced citizens.. they WANT to work. we can help and some of us will help.......are you willing too?
Many thanks to GC

for their support in this effort.
I am planning to host special tourneys in all of the games that tourneys are held. In addition, any earnings I receive from hosting during the month of September will be directly transferred into the relief account -- so ... the more who play -- the more I will donate. I hope to see many of you at these tourneys.
And what great ideas you've given us Cagney, I'm already going to work on those.
Thank you all, especially GC, for your support. Pearle
Great Ideas!

Anxiously awaiting benefit tourney info. This relief fund that's being formed, is there anyway to keep us all updated as its monetary amount increases? I would be happy to donate!

If you are going to contribute to KATRINA_RELIEF outside of a tourney, you can do so via Contact Us, after logging in as yourself and requesting the specific amount to be transferred to KATRINA_RELIEF account.
1. Whether it is 1 Ticket or 100 Tickets, your donation will be private & every $ will help.
2. There is NO FEE for transferring tickets from one account to another.
3. Contributions can be made for this special account for the entire month of September.
4. Every $ counts. One dollar will diaper a baby or buy milk for a whole day
Thanks to all for any help you can give both personal contributions and in promotion.
thank you

I think its ridiculous that the gas prices are so high and people are actually trying to make money off of something so terrible. It's like 9-11 all over again.
Its almost impossible to not let your tank get under 1/2 when gas is $3.09 a gallon (our prices). Pretty bad when gas is almost as expensive as milk. You have to work a full day just to fill up your tank. Every dollar helps, I just hope the Red Cross actually uses the money for what they are supposed to.

You can keep your vehicle running on the top half of the tank as well as the bottom of the tank. I think the point was having no less then 1/2 tank at any time as well as increased milage at the top perhaps. Not the first time the oil companies have taken full advantage of a situation when we have not many choices. BTW though.. bottled water has been more than $6.00 a gallon for years.
We can make it through this crisis and we will be stronger than ever.

Where do you live where bottled water is 6.00 a gallon? We pay .69 for a gallon of spring/drinking water. Unless you are talking about some other kind of water, and in that case it better be loaded with gold nuggets.

Aaron. Maybe I was a bit extreme. When I heard how many 10oz. bottles of 'processed' water were sold in the US every day, I guess it blew my mind! 8 cups (8oz) in a gallon. Price for 10oz bottle of water = $1.29

Your not to far off the mark. In my former life I was a VP for the Bottled Water Divion of Borden, Inc. Back in 1978 a 5-gallon bottle of water delivered to your home was $5.00 a bottle. Have no idea what it cost today but I'm certain $6.00 is not out of the ballpark.
By the way, I am talking about filtered city tap water.
And the contributions are growing

It's wonderful to see a community pulling together for the KATRINA_RELIEF and it's even more amazing to see this community strenght at a game site -- I'm hearing about people donating their winnings, or just making straight out donations! What a wonderful group of people we have here. Ocean Gem

Get ready the KATRINA_RELIEF tourneys are coming to your neighborhood. Any winners are not required to donate any and/or all of their winnings. I am doing the tourneys as my part of the donation. During the month of September any tourneys I host and money I earn from hosting will go directly to the Katrina account. If you should like to donate some of your winnings, you are more than welcome to do so -- please see Webbies post on how you can do that. All I ask is that as many of you will sign up for these tourneys because the more who sign up the more I am able to donate. And last but not least, please be patient with me as I'm not used to doing tourneys in Gin so I ask for your patience. Thanks and I look forward to seeing a lot of you soon. Pearle

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
