Hello players!! We need your help. Game Colony is going to hold a special annual event tournament in Gin. And the prize will be $1000 tix. Yep, you read it right...$1000 tix. Players will enter specially held tourneys and you must win one of these tourneys to qualify for the $1000 tix tourney.
And, here's where we need your assistance. What do our players want as far as time slots and format (ie: # of points, type of game). We really want your imput folks so please post your thoughts here. We'll let you know when this huge event will take place. Thanks for all your help and for playing on Game Colony

Let it replace a nightly HR tourney that usually turns out a large number of players. These tourneys are starting to get regular high quality players and I'm certain if the rules of the tourney are fair you get a wonderful turnout.
What is you theme? Number of matches won, tix, single elimintion or double elim?

I agree with Ed. I think the games should be at 10 or 10:30 EST.
I think it would bring out the best players.

The most significant question to the success and participation of any tourney is 'TIX'. What is doing to be the entrance fee?
The fees, high stakes or low stakes, will determine who will participate. In other words, the time of the tourney is secondary to the entance fees.

The entry fee will determine everything,....but since this is a Gin tourney, let's make it a true Gin game.
So my suggestion is 150 Gin (LD).....at 10 tix entry fee....

LD is not 'True Gin'!
I have been playing this game for over fifty years and this is the only place where I have seen so much LD.

On the West Coast, Loser Deals has been in vogue for years as 'modern gin'. Specifically, the biggest land-based competition in the world based in Las Vegas -- ginrummytournaments.com -- almost exclusively is LD. Supposedly, LD gives strong players an additional edge.
200 reg/okie LD gets my vote

I prefer a 200 point game over 150 just for the extra skill factor. Usually a player will get a quick knock and going to 200 versus 150 will minimize the effect of that quick hand more-so than going to 150. Playing reg or okie doesn't matter as much to me as some, but if I had to choose, it would be regular. I also like loser deals because I can get into a rythym easier. That's how I play live when I get the chance to, and it's what I am used to.
Nice idea by Gamecolony though, I do like the idea. I normally do not play tournies, but I will definitely play these qualifiers.

I like the idea of the variety of games at a variety of amounts. that way you have several chances. i would prefer daytime(east coast) but would probably still play most anytime.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
