Ladder Climbing

I just read the challenges posted. One player in the top 20 challenged someone in the top 10 and requested a game (which is they way you are supposed to do it). The player in the top 10 stated 'very, very, very few players climb the ladder playing for $1 ticket -- you are trying to climb in the cheapest manner possible'. What in the world does playing for $1 ticket have to do with the ladder? What does it matter how much you play for as long as you play for climbing? I didn't know there was a specific ticket amount that was considered 'good or high enough' that you would be considered a 'top' player.

If I may add some history to you question. There was a time, not too long ago, when the Ladder was introduced and it gave the players yet another way to compete. At the same time, the same players were grouping at the top of the Ladder and the key is to stay there. That's where the tix come into play.
If you play the required number of matches needed to retain your spot at high tix you'll run out of tix faster than you can imagine. To fix this 'problem', and it was a problem, it was decided for players to compete at nominal tix, 1 or 2, so they could get their games in and don't go broke doing it.
This is the way it was back then. Your comment about the correlation of the Ladder and Tix was a non-event. I remember one month when I climbed into the #1 spot it cost me a small fortune to stay there. I ended the month dueling with a very dear friend and we ultimately took 3rd and 4th.
Today's game may be different but now you know the way it started on GC. No correlation between tix and Ladder except on the low side as agreed to by the players.
Hope this helps.

That same player you speak about chrissy very rarely plays opponents lower than him in the top 20. Once he is behind you though he's very willing to play. He also has a habit of playing way less when he is in the top 10 than when he isn't. When you invite him to play he usually comes back with his standard answer of there are 102 other people here that you can play against.

I am now #4 on the Ladder and I have no idea how this happened. I think it has something to do with the reversal of the top ten or twenty players at month end.
Come challenge me, I'll play anyone as long as its a good game. The key to me is the qaulity of the game not the win or loss.
Now I see it....

There is one more way to climb the ladder; do it the way I'm doing it. By the way, I'm doing this jsut to show you it can be done.
The secret is, win a bunch of tourneys. The rules are very clear that every time you take a 1st place ina tourney you automatically ,ove up one run on the ladder. I'm now up to #2. I don't think #1 will play me so I'll just have to win another tourney.
Its easy.

At GameColony.com you can play games of skill only -- play for free or play for $prizes!.
According to the statutes of most states in the United States, gambling is defined as: "risking something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance". (Also see No Gambling!). The skill (as opposed to chance) is predominant in games of skill. Playing games of skill for $prizes, therefore, has nothing to do with gambling as it is not a contest of chance -- the more skillful player will win far more often. The chance element of a 'gamble' is either insignificant or missing. When players compete in tournaments or games of skill for $prizes -- it is "competitive entertainment" rather then "gambling". The more skilled winner will always win more matches, tournaments and $prizes.
