A few times when I have created a table and invited all to play, the person who joins th table has the word 'BAN' at the line where the points are. Could someone clarify this for me? Thanks, John.

'Ban' is a button - available for a player who created a table. You can use this button if the game is not proceeding. Although using this button excessively could be rude, this button is intended for banning a player from your table.

A lot of players use it to protect their rating or their ladder position. They ban someone if they don't want to play them. It's not a permanent/eternal ban. In fact, if you reinvite everyone again, that player can jump right back on your table.

On major reason for the ban button is I have had some players who are very rude or leave in the middle of a game because they are losing. There no reason someone should have to put up with that.

It is also used apparently to just get rid of a player that they do not want to play. BG players especially seemed scared to play. Either to protect their 'ratings' or even if you want to play for tix.
