Ratings reduction for 'excessively selective' play

Ratings reduction for 'excessively selective' play

We have reduced all of the unreasonably high ratings that were achieved by excessively selective play. One needs to play all players with all ratings - both high and low. Some ratings may also have received an unreasonable boost if one played and won against those players who artificially boosted their ratings. Unreasonably high ratings were decreased across the board for all players.

The change in rating seems arbitrary and unfair. Naturally better players will play against better players....Your system of scoring incurages this.

We have found that ratings can receive an unreasonable boost if one plays and wins against those players who artificially boost their ratings. Unreasonably high ratings were decreased across the board for all players. When you win against someone who didn't cheat but benefited in a rated win against someone who did, you'd also receive an artificially unreasonable boost in rating. At this time all unreasonable ratings for all players are reduced so that will become less of an issue. We apologize for inconvenience. It seems a number of people treated rating number as a sort of badge of honour or, at least a badge for bragging rights. For a more relevant measure of one's skill (and bragging rights, as well as possible prizes) , we suggest competing in our monthly Ladder competitions. In Ladder, players compete for a #1 to #10 spots in monthly competitions. See: Ladder Rules or in play for $Ticket competitions - see What are $Tickets

UNREASONABLE RATINGS

As a devoted GC player, I am pleased to see this arbitrary adjustment being made. It will help eliminate the divide that has existed between players and their playing style. I have always welcomed anyone to join my table and can only hope that other follow suit. Maybe this will encourage that approach to gaming here at GameColony.

I agree

I agree with LadyAwe. One of the most personable players out there, she has never "not" played a player because of their artificial rating. When you become a VIP player, you quickly realize that ladder rankings and tournaments wins are what is important.

Artificial Ratings

I presume they are ratings that were not legitimately earned, or ratings for those players who refuse to play anyone with a lessor rating than they have, therefore not really risking the ratings that they think that they "earned". As stated above, instead of worrying about ratings, how about worrying about your ladder position or your tix account?

Agreed

In response to mackay234 comment about the best players want to play the best players. Ratings do not determine how good a player is "IF" he/she only plays players above their present rating. You will see many players with equal wins and losses or even more losses than wins and still with a high rating "only" because they play players rated above them as jethrotull said. That is artificial. By far the best players in gamecolony are those that play for tix and in tournaments as they risk their $$$ and ratings to win these tournaments.

It's a step in the right direction but it hasn't / won't stop the problem. Remove the ban option for challenges within x rating and penalise for closing the table instead.
