explanation of record Posted by Goldendomer (VIP) Dec 13 2017 6:26AM How can a player (#edited#) have a mini-tournament record of 1069-536 and an overall record of 1078-1810? That means the record outside of mini-tournaments is 9-1274. Something doesn't seem right about that. How to tell about a player from the stats Posted by webmaster (moderator) Dec 13 2017 7:07AM The stats of a player tell the story: this would be a strong Ticket player trying to minimize own rating by losing free games. The chess term used for such tactics: sandbagging explanation of record Posted by Goldendomer (VIP) Dec 13 2017 7:15AM If that's the case then their record should be adjusted accordingly by the site administrators, just like they do ratings. Why these stats should not be adjusted Posted by webmaster (moderator) Dec 15 2017 6:38AM The stats need to tell a full story as is without whitewashing the story. A considerable mismatch between mini-tourney wins and free wins tells us a story of .what a piece of work that pkayer is.... Sorting out sandbaggers, the easy way Posted by Charmeuse (VIP) Dec 16 2017 5:20AM Well, if GC would list the opponent + win/loss record of every single game rather than just league game, it's certainly very easy to tell. Sandbaggers cannot hide anymore. listing win/loss ratio versus total wins and losses Posted by webmaster (moderator) Dec 16 2017 6:01PM GameColony lists players' wins and losses in numbers (versus ratios) in Free games, Ladder Games and Mini-Tourneys. Deriving win/loss ratios or percentages from numbers is a matter of middle school arithmetic and personal preference. If the only thing you can look at is win/loss ratios or percentages, the ratios will tell less of a story than pure numbers of wins and losses. As a simplistic example, consider a player who has 100% win ratio in Free games. If you don't see that this player only played a single game, you are bound to draw the wrong conclusion. Posted by Charmeuse (VIP) Dec 16 2017 9:03PM I understand what you are talking about, and I can spot the sandbaggers a mile away myself and avoid them, but then this is a very simplistic solution for every player in game, not just experienced ones. And I guarantee you, once you list every record in game just like the league games, those sandbaggers will not keep losing unnecessary free games because they cannot hide anymore. |
