GOOD NEWS....TOURNAMENTS ARE NOW HERE....BUT I NEED YOUR HELP....WHAT TYPE OF TOURNEY....HOW MANY TICKETS....AND WHAT TIME IS GOOD FOR EVERYONE.....YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE TICKETS TO PLAY IN ANY TOURNAMENT....YOU CAN WIN TICKETS IN A TOURNEY (1-9 PLAYERS PAYS 1ST AND 2ND PLACE)(10-32 PLAYERS PAY 1ST, 2ND, 3RD, AND 4TH PLACES)....EVERY GAME IN EACH TOURNEY COUNTS AS A LADDER GAME....AND THE WINNER OF THE TOURNEY ALSO MOVES UP ONE EXTRA RUNG UP THE LADDER.....SO LETS GET THESE TOURNEYS UP AND RUNNING...SO YOU TOO CAN HAVE A TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS IN CHESS...LETS HAVE SOME FUN!!! I notice we have some coming tournaments in the week ahead, the time is fine with me for sure. But i wasnt quite sure if the time rating you are playing. 3/3 or 3/0. playing 3 minutes without the increment sounds fair. as i dont like increment. i would also light some lightning tournaments made like 1/0. If thats possible. Not sure how many people will join as a lot dont have tickets

The Ladder is already dominated by 1-0 players leaving members, who prefer slower games, disadvantaged. A fairer approach would be to have tournaments that cover each of the preferred timings: i.e. 1-0; 2-0; 3-0; 4-0; 5-0 etc. Members can then choose the tournament where their strength lies.

to participate in a tournament you need to purchase tickets... I agree that there should be different timings but not more than 3/0.

Though thats bad news for the rest of us! I think there should be longer tourneys such as 5/0 and maybe even 10/0 if people want to participate. Also the tourneys at the moment are midnight UK time so i look forward to the 'morning' tourneys

Thanks for hosting last night's tourney, Julie. One point of info for future events... Players, when setting up tables, need only set them for RATED and not LADDER. I believe they can choose whether they want white or black also. I understand that the LADDER changes are controlled by the TD.



Suggestions for more Chess Tourney participants

Could the GC powers, whether TD or webmaster et al, consider the following suggestions: 1. Have an end of month, or start of month, open tournament (different timings) for non-ticket members. Prizes would be similar to existing ticket and ladder reward events. Ticket winners may then be encouraged to become VIP players. 2. Have a "first-come-first-served" open tournament where the first 32, 64 etc players to sign up (whether VIP or non-ticket members) gain free entry. Again, try it with different timings and with prizes similar to existing ticket and ladder reward events. Perhaps then, Ticket winners may be encouraged to become VIP players.

The new tourneys dont seem very good for people with a high rating. Only 1 1900 plus tourney and that is a 5 minute tourney. Well im sure there shall be plenty of tourneys with not many people in now. Thought the idea was some 1 minute tourneys as well!

it's a pity that the tourney scheduled for today has been bracketed at 1400 and under for the starting limit. I am of the opinion that it should be increased and have a limit of 1550. After all, how many vip's have under 1400? I am a bit disappointed as I really wanted to compete. Anyway we shall see how many turn up. Please note for the future though! Next, I have a question about the tourney last week which states the following: - 7:01pm EDT DBL ELIM. 3/0 Ladder 1 Tix w/JJ Dbl elim. 0 min. total, 3 min. per move The timing was 3 mins per game. Is this a typing error? Please clarify Finally, I have a suggestion for improvement, in that the board could be rotated from a 'watch table' point of view. Therefore the viewer is able to choose whether to watch with white at the bottom of the monitor and vice-versa. For chess programs played on pc, there is an option to rotate the board for playing, hence my question is: Is this a possibility for us here at game colony as viewers? Does anyone else have an opinion about this? Thanks
